Kadohata gives us the story of the Takeshima family. The Takeshima is a Japanese family that moves to the deep south state of Georgia in order to try and better their family. While Katie the middle child is the narrator of the story the reader journeys with the family as they adjust from there Japanese Community to their new town. As the family faces a tragedy it is up to Katie to show that there is always something glittering- kira-kira- in the future. This book is for use in grades 6-8, and can show students there is hope in the world.
