Giff gives us a beautiful story of Friendship in Lily's Crossing. Set in 1944-1945 during World War II, Lily Mollahan is a fifth grader with a large imagination. As long as she can remember, she has journeyed every summer to Rockaway with her father and grandmother and enjoyed daily adventures with her friend Margaret. This year in the midst of World War II everything changes. She meets Albert and forms a life-changing bond. It is easily to swept up in the dialogue and feel a part of their story as you read the Newberry Honor book. It is recommended for grades 3-5 and has coordinating AR tests. I highly recommend getting a copy or two for your class of home library today!
